What's New in ArcGIS Urban on ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5

By Katie Thompson and Lisa Staehli

Hello ArcGIS Enterprise users! The ArcGIS Urban on ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5 is here – Read on for a quick summary of the release highlights.

Simplify urban model management

Imagine you need to create a copy of your urban model because you want to clean it up without having to remove all the plans and projects that were created for testing purposes. You can now do that by creating a copy of the original urban model and sharing the new version with others. For more information, see Simplify Urban Model Management with ArcGIS Urban’s Copy Functionality.

Calculate impact with new metrics

Planners often need to quantify the impact of their proposals – whether to validate decisions for themselves or to respond to questions from stakeholders. With access to key metrics directly tied to your 3D models, you can quickly evaluate and communicate the impacts of your plans, such as:

  • Will there be enough green space for residents?
  • How will this design affect the local economy?
  • What kind of jobs will the development create?
  • Which design scenario best addresses environmental impact, like stormwater runoff?
A side-by-side view of the Pfingstweid Park model and a dashboard of related metrics help us understand the impacts of a plan as we design it.

In this release of ArcGIS Urban on ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5, planners can use new metrics to better understand the impacts of a design. The experience has been revamped to support more enhanced calculations, allowing planners to configure their metrics more quickly and with greater flexibility. This includes:

New metrics graph authoring experience

You can now use an enhanced graph authoring experience to manage and configure metrics faster, including undo and redo and a convenient search bar. Besides the visual graph editing, the new side panel provides a comprehensive editing experience for different types of metrics.

In the side panel, you can also set space use type parameters for a metric by entering values in a structured table, eliminating the need to navigate elsewhere in the plan’s settings to do so.

Flexible calculation with additional operators and inputs

There is a range of new operators to calculate metrics, including subtraction, division, rounding & variables, and you can now also base the metric calculation on building and parcel measurements, such as building footprint area, gross floor area, building height, or parcel area. Metrics that you previously configured are converted automatically so that you can extend your existing graph with new calculation methods right away.

And one more thing: besides calculation and units, you can also specify the resolution of the result for each metric which unlocks greater flexibility for in your calculations. The resolution can be set to the level of spaces, parcels, buildings or study area/selection.

For a more in-depth look at this new functionality as it first appeared in ArcGIS Online in December 2024, you can read the original announcement blog here.
